Product Description
We called this bag PEPITA because it conjures up images of a brave soul exploring unfamiliar lands in search of hidden treasures – he returns, having narrowly escaped death, with but a single “pepita” (nugget) of gold in his leather bag …
This bag is handmade in Italy using real vegetable-tanned Italian leather. It is soft and supple, with a nicely broken-in feel. The very first time you sling the bag over your shoulder it will feel like it’s been your favorite bag for ages!

Please note that the main compartment interior measures approximately 7″W x 9″H x 2″D and does NOT fit the iPad.

PEPITA – Italian Leather Explorer’s Bag

  1. When I saw this bag it struck a cord. It reminded me of the bags used by people who NEED to carry a bag. The picture that comes to mind is that of Italian city police walking around with their bags slung over their shoulders.

This bag gets its rugged look and feel by being clearly handmade. You can see where the leather was cut and stitched by hand. Because it feels rugged you are not going to be afraid to use it or (if you’re a guy like me who does not like the thought of carrying a bag) be ashamed about the way you look carrying it: the bag looks like it is part of what you do.

The long strap is awesome: It allows you to let the bag hang exactly where you want it. The leather is really nice and you can tell it is genuine. I also like the front closure: looks like a belt buckle, but it is just a magnetic closure that is quick to open.

This is not a messenger bag that can carry a laptop, and it is not a rigid briefcase with a filing system for important documents. But it seems to be the right size and weight to carry AND organize everything I need: journals, writing pads, pda/phone, mp3 player, refillable water bottle, pens, and so on.

I bought this bag fo my son who spends most of his time in Asia. He prefers quality to quantity as he travels very lightly and each piece he owns must count. This bag meets that requirement and much more. It is not only beautiful but practical – a perfect size for someone wanting to carry all his stuff – phone, Ipod, note pads, sketch pad, calendar, paperback. It is not a briefcase nor a laptop carrier and not meant to be. I thought it was gorgeous – and my son immediately gathered his stuff out of the backpack he had been using and transferred it to this bag. He uses it every day.

He – and his wife – loved this bag. It is obviously a high quality piece and you can see the quality in every aspect. The leather is beautiful, it is well and carefully made. There is nothing flimsy or cheap about it. I think the person who thought it not manly enough is wrong. It is highly sophisticated – a very worldly bag to carry. It may not be appropriate down on the farm but it is a wonderful bag for any man to carry in a large city.

  3. I purchased this bag for myself after searching high and low for a “man bag” that I would feel comfortable carrying. Although, I’m still creeped-out about having to carry a bag; I must say the quality and design of this bag are top-notch! The leather is excellent quality, beautifully soft and the color is very rich.

Overall it’s a very handsome bag that you’ll be proud to own.

I have carried a “man bag” of some kind for 30 years. After purchasing a Kindle I decided I needed something just a bit bigger. So, after looking at the size and quality, I purchased this bag. It is big enough for my Kindle, as well as other thing such as my wallet, glasses, etc. I am a physician, and I do wear a shirt and tie at the office. I just find that the bulge of a wallet and keys in my pockets is just a pain, and difficult on the clothes. Hence 30 years with a man bag. Most of my male friends carry a briefcase, “fanny” pack, or some such device, but seem put off by the idea of a bag such as this. Go figure. These conventions die hard. It is, after all, just a bag. My wife is used to my male “purse.”

This bag is very well made, and of very high quality. I have used it now for many weeks, and am now used to slinging it cross-wise over my chest like a messenger. I do recommend it.

Now, the description of the bag is high comedy! Go back and read it again. It looks like something written by Elaine Benes of the Seinfeld sitcom for the J Peterman Catalogue. When I read it, I just burst out laughing! Are they kidding!? I bought it in spite of that description.

One reviewer gave the product a low rating just because he felt the bag was too feminine in appearance. That seems unjustified. He should not have ordered it based on the picture. It is not particularly feminine, but it is a product category not seen much in the U.S. Men threatened by this just should not carry one. It is a well made product, and if you like the appearance of it, I can tell you that for function and quality, it is terrific.

  5. If you are ok with man bags this is the one. Lots of room for stuff that men carry around with them. This is a hand made bag from Italy, has that great leather smell, and handmade look and feel.
